And Life Goes On
Dir: Kobayashi Shigeru
Japan / 2004 / Japanese / Color / 16mm / 107 min

This work painstakingly depicts everyday scenes of children who cannot breathe without assistance and adults who have resided for four decades at Dai-Ni Biwako School, a facility with a long history for severely mentally handicapped children and adults.
“All lives exist between the joy and pain of living.” Beginning with these words, And Life Goes On in no way concerns itself with the question of how disabled people should be treated within society, but rather it deeply examines the source of life through the “existences” and “inner voices” of human beings.
