The third Yamagata Film Criticism Workshop at YIDFF 2015 has borne fruit—new book of critiques and writings on film has just been published. Essays by workshop participants who watched films at the festival, then learned how to view and discuss films with colleagues; Essays by mentor film critics Chris Fujiwara, Kitakoji Takashi, and Kaneko Yu; and a transcript of the discussion “Film Criticism Collective Symposium: Documentary as Experimental Cinema” which welcomed sharp voices from Southeast Asian cinema on its panel. It’s a must-read volume that looks towards the future of cinema and networking of Asian film professionals. Free of charge, it is available through the YIDFF Tokyo Office.
