At last, the New Asian Currents line-up!

We're happy to announce this year's line-up for the New Asian Currents program, introducing up-and-coming Asian documentarists. 48 works comprise this year's program, with the most number of short works to date. With Palestine and Lebanon being represented for the first time, the line-up promises to be even more lively, spanning regions far and wide within Asia.
This year, the shortest work is four minutes and the longest 180 minutes. The youngest director is a mere 17 years old. Works from the Asian continent's westernmost country, Turkey, and the continent‚s easternmost tip, Japan, will be screened.
In particular, works by young directors as well as female directors, stand out this year. Of the 48 directors, 14 of them are women, including some from the Middle East. The program also features a sharp increase in works produced with digital video cameras.
For the first time, all works in the New Asian Currents program will be screened with both Japanese and English subtitles. On the final day of the festival, the Ogawa Shinsuke Prize will be awarded to the most promising of the 48 works.
Two special programs are scheduled for a different venue. One, hosted by the distribution network VIDEO ACT!, will feature discussions on video activism in Japan and Korea (held over two days). Another is a joint Japan / Taiwan documentary symposium (held over three days) featuring Hara Kazuo and Wu Yii-feng. Definitely not to be missed!
