The Film Makers Field (FMF), based in Fukuoka City, initiated the non-competitive 8mm three-minute-film festival Personal Focus in 1978, seeking to create an environment where anyone could make and present 8mm movies. Despite the continuing deterioration of the situation for 8mm film since its heyday, over a thousand 8mm movies have been screened as of this year’s twentieth festival.
