The web movie project Between Yesterday & Tomorrow was launched two weeks after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11, 2011. More than thirty filmmakers each created a five-minute movie based upon written instructions. This omnibus is made up of new works created by these same filmmakers in 2016.

[Director’s Statement] The omnibus Between Yesterday & Tomorrow (2011–) has been screened at film festivals in Japan and overseas, beginning with YIDFF 2011. I believe this work speaks to each viewer’s memory differently. Last year, five years after the disater, we asked the same directors for new films, for a new omnibus. Hence eight different stories—four each from 2011 and 2016—are cut together in chronological order.

Maeda Shinjiro
Works include Inoue Shinta Project of Shepherd 1999 (YIDFF ’99) and “hibi” 13 full moons (YIDFF 2005).

Suzuki Hikaru
Works include The Shepherd’s Story / Shinjuku 2009 + Ogaki 2010 (2011, YIDFF 2011, collaboration with Maeda Shinjiro).

Oki Hiroyuki
Works include 3+1 (YIDFF ’97) and Inside Mind (YIDFF ’99). Oki served on the jury for New Asian Currents at YIDFF 2009.

Ikeda Yasunori
Contributed to Omnibus Vol. 2 “MAY 2011” in this series (YIDFF 2011).

Takashi Toshiko
Works include Ode I and Oishi Apartments, Nishi-Tengachaya (both 1998, YIDFF ’99) and Blessed (2001, YIDFF 2001). Takashi served on the jury for New Asian Currents at YIDFF 2013.
