Outcomes of the Film Criticism Workshop (which is co-organized by the YIDFF and the Japan Foundation Asia Center) that was held at the Salamindanaw Asian Film Festival (Philippines) from November 8 through 12, 2016 as a Film Criticism Collective’s activity. Includes essays by the eleven workshop; essays by Chris Fujiwara and Kitakoji Takashi; and a text and transcript of the discussion on regional cinema that is an important theme of the Salamindanaw Asian Film Festival. Film Criticism Collective 1
Founded in 2015, the Film Criticism Collective (FCC) is intended to develop and encourage film criticism, to facilitate interaction among critics in Asia, and to make the writing of Asian critics more accessible in English. The book complies the activity and outcomes of “Yamagata Film Criticism Workshop (co-organized by the Japan Center Asia Center)” during the YIDFF 2015. It contains essays by workshop participants; essays by mentors film critics Chris Fujiwara, Kitakoji Takashi, and Kaneko Yu; and a transcript of the discussion “Film Criticism Collective Symposium: Documentary as Experimental Cinema” which welcomed sharp voices from Southeast Asian cinema on its panel. Asia Symposium 1989
A record of the symposium that took place on October 14th 1989 at YIDFF ’89, the very first documentary film festival to be held in Asia. Ogawa Shinsuke, Stephen Teo, Tsuchimoto Noriaki and other participants discussed the theme of “Why documentary film wasn’t developing within Asia” for over five hours. Japanese and English. 64 pp.
