Ip Yuk-yiu

Ip is a film and video artist. He has taught filmmaking in Boston before "resettling" in Hong Kong where he is currently teaching at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. His works have been shown in Hong Kong, France, Germany, Japan and the United States. Ip is now working on his new film / video projects Love in 13 Rooms and Tokyo: Object of Desire.

Using poetic images and first-person voice-over, Ip documents the passing of his father and the historical changes in Hong Kong during the tumultuous years 1996-98. It is the first part of a film diary series "postcards from hong kong."

Director's Statement

By recording transitory events, I attempt to capture and understand history, both personally and socially, in a more tangible manner. To record the personal is to make a testimony of time and space that is particular and historical. This personal testimony is alternative evidence of history.
